OUTFIT: I Like Short Shorts

If you managed to catch my last outfit of the day you'll already know exactly how much I love velvet, but it's no one-off, oh no. I own a fair few velvet pieces and this pair of burgundy short shorts is amongst my favourites. I could type a big long essay about why but really, just look at the photos and you'll see why!

I know that the short shorts trend has been doing the rounds for a while now, but I was pretty late to jump on to that bandwagon. When I saw these beauties, I just knew it was time to broaden my horizons. No mean feat considering bodycon skirts have been a staple of my wardrobe for the past few years. In a way the shorts aren't so different to the bodycons, both are ridiculously easy to style!

Why was I so late on to the shorts? Well I did try to get into them when they first hit the scene, but I felt like they made my legs look a bit chunky and I dismissed them pretty quickly. But over the past year or so I've toned up and lost a little bit of excess weight, and now they look über flattering!

Prayer beads

Thee necklace technically isn't a necklace, it's a set of prayer beads brought back by my brother from Hajj. I thought they looked too pretty to keep locked away in my flat in a drawer for most of the day, so I started wearing them as a necklace. I even whip them out while on public transport to do my tasbeeh. Now that's functional fashion! ;)

OUTFIT: Red Velvet

Regular readers of mine should know of my dislike of winter by now. I'm not a big fan of the 'Autumn/Winter' ranges on the high street mainly consisting of dark and dreary colours, launched in the dying months of summer as if to prepare us for a dark and dreary few months.

One of the very few good things about Winter and its accompanying clothing range is velvet. Sexy, sultry, smooth velvet. Everybody loves a bit of velvet, particularly in the winter, it just looks so smart, sophisticated and snug. Just a few weeks before Christmas, I was scouting out all of my usual haunts looking for it. I needed my fix! Plus I had a few invites to social soirees and I wanted something different for the occasion.

Lo and behold, I stumbled upon the most gorgeous dress on eBay. It's a ruched corset bodice with a velvet burgundy skirt, all neatly packaged in the form of a dress. I remember swooning over the very same dress no less than a year ago in Topshop, having one of those mental debates where something is truly amazing yet also truly out-of-my-price-range. My heart was saying yes, but my brain spat out it's coffee and exclaimed: "£145???!! FOR A DRESS?!".

So brain won that particular battle and then had the pleasure of saying: "I told you so" just a few months later. My winning bid on this absolute dream of a dress? £18. I was sat on the edge of the bed, button-bashing on the F5 key just praying that nobody would come in and snipe me in the dying seconds. My heart-rate rose frantically. A cold rush of blood to the head saw my fingers type in £50 and click 'Place Bid' before my brain even knew what was going on. The countdown timer surged in to the red. 10. 9. Don't you dare snipe me. 6. 5. OMG I'm gonna win!. 3. 2. 1. Victory.

Following that though, there was the tenseness of waiting for it to come through the post. It's happened to me before, I've won a ridiculously expensive item at a ridiculously low price and received an email from the seller saying they've burnt it with their iron, asking if I still want it. But no. No emails, just an agonising wait. Finally it arrived though. My precious... And it even had the tags on it still.

DesignerSpray is now Fashionicide!

Hihihi!

You may have already noticed it but, just to make sure we're all on the same page here, DesignerSpray is no more. Why? 2012 was a year of change for me and I thought that the time was right to ditch the old name and get me a fresh new one. So here it is: Fashionicide!

What's that all about? 

Well, Designerspray was always intended to reflect my background in hairdressing but as time went by I found the blog had really evolved away from that and moved towards fashion. The new name is more in tune with what the blog will be about and actually came from a friend of mine commenting on my choice of outfit. I'd combined a black and white lace striped crop top with a black bodycon skirt and a bright green hoody, and she said: "What a lovely outfit, shame about the hoody! Doesn't go!" Then it just hit me, to her it was like I was killing fashion: Fashionicide!

As I said, 2012 was all about change. Since my last post in October I've taken the plunge and died the other side of my hair turquoise too! When I saw how great the right side looked I felt like I had to take it another step further! The plan was to go turquoise all over, but we don't want to go rushing into things like that now do we?! 

  At the back end of the year, I switched from high heels to flats. The effort required for me to wear heels just isn't worth it, it's much easier to just slip on some flats and hit the road! In all honesty, I dislike shoes and wish it was socially acceptable to walk around barefeet. Aside from the social acceptability, I guess we'd need the streets cleaned up of glass and other sharp objects!

So I've come to some form of acceptance that wearing shoes is an unfortunate necessity, and flats are about as close as I can get to not wearing any! 

  

Those who know me reasonably well will perhaps fondly recall my love-hate relationship with my Blackberry. 

It was amazing for keeping in contact with people via BBM, but that's only ever going to be good when the phone actually works properly! I was getting more than just a little fed up with regular server issues and the phone itself randomly switching off mid-way through typing out late night Whatsapp or BBM messages! So I committed the ultimate BB sin, and joined Team iPhone. What was the first thing I did? Downloaded Instagram of course!

As a direct result of all the hair colouring I've done this year, I've managed to embrace Up-dos. I've found recently that my poor, poor hair needed a lot of TLC after the bashing it's taken this year. 

My daily shampooing routine just had to go, as did the blowdrying and straightening. I was always under the impression that my hair was far too short for an Up-do but YouTube persuaded me to at least give it a shot. It's positively brimming with all sorts of styles for the short(ish) haired-girl. So far I've been able to create the Vertical Roll and the Top-knot and my hair loves me for it!

OUTFIT - Destroying the Winter Blues

Hello hello!

I've said this before, but I'll say it again... I'm back! This time I'm determined to stick at it though, promise!

Anyway, our disappointing Summer is well and truly over. We managed to get a few weeks of Autumn, but this week it has been COLD. The park I pass by on the way to work was seriously eerie, the grass was white! Brrr.

Traditionally this is the season where we all retire back into our shells of darker, duller colours. High street outlets bombard us with darkness. 

But me? Well, that's just not my style. 

Dark, dull clothes mixed with dark, dull weather makes for a serious case of the 'Winter Blues'. For me, the brighter the better. I mean, I'll still get the blues, I'll still pine for warmer climes, I'll still wish I could eat frozen yoghurt without it freezing me too. But just take a look at this beautiful dress.

If you're up to date with my previous posts, you'll already know my feelings on sales. Ghastly, horrific experiences. But every now and then, a little gem pokes out of the filth. I defy anyone around me to feel miserable while I'm wearing this gorgeous bright yellow dress, with amazing oriental floral prints all over it. I got it in a size 6 and it's still pretty loose fitting on me. So I threw on my trusty Asos skinny black belt to cinch it all in, wear the dress off the shoulder and we have a bright outfit to smash through those blues.

My infatuation with Henna Tattoos is still going strong, they've been making their way from my hands up to my arms. I've really been loving Arabic lately, the scriptures are amazingly beautiful, some may even call it art. 

  

And last but certainly not least, my favourite necklace at the moment, the Rita Ora Amber necklace. It's a beaut. It's huge, it's statement, it's chunky. And I heart it. It's bloody heavy though haha.
