Neil Young Releases 'Waging Heavy Peace' Autobiography and 'Psychedelic Pill' Album

Neil Young has written his autobiography, Waging Heavy Peace

If rust never sleeps, Neil Young is positively an insomniac from the looks of his restless, busy year. The always idiosyncratic Young, age 66, just released his autobiography Waging Heavy Peace, just weeks before he and his long-time band Crazy Horse drop the double album Psychedelic Pill -  their first release of original material since 2003 - and heads out on a tour that brings them to Philadelphia’s Wells Fargo Center on November 29.

Philadelphia's Meek Mill to Release Debut Album 'Dreams and Nightmares' on October 30

Dreams and Nightmares, the debut album from Meek Mill

Philadelphia’s Meek Mill has been a hip hop fixture for so long with his independent Dreamchaser mix tape series and his affiliation with Rick Ross’ Maybach Music, it’s hard to believe that he hasn’t released an actual album. All that changes though on October 30 when Mill drops his debut album Dreams and Nightmares  (Maybach/Warner Brothers) with a slew of top tier guests such as Drake, Ross, Nas, John Legend, Mary J. Blige and Trey Songz.

KISS Releases ‘Monster’ Album on October 9; New Toys in Stores Now

The new KISS album Monster will be released on October 9

When Gene Simmons isn’t busy being a father to singing X-Factor contestant Sophie Tweed-Simmons, he spends his time running the rock n’ roll enterprise that is KISS. This month, the KISS factory is particularly busy as it wraps up its American tour with Motley Crue, releases its twentieth studio album Monster and can be seen as a set of build-able children’s toys courtesy of the K’NEX brand.

and at once I knew I was not magnificent

As promised, a (not very) brief recap of our wonderful Seattle trip:

At midnight on Friday, September 9, Ryan and I boarded the Amtrak Empire Builder at the St. Paul train station and headed west. We had never taken the train before, but we have always been a little enamored of the idea. It seemed so quaint and old-timey, but also a really awesome way of seeing parts of the country we'd never seen. It did not disappoint, despite the 36-hour train trip each way, the shaky tiny bathrooms, and the questionable food.

We didn't spring for a sleeping car, so we didn't get too much sleep that first night (or any night). The train was freezing and we just weren't able to get comfortable. But that was okay, because before long, it was morning and we were in North Dakota.

the sunrise, somewhere between Grand Forks and Devils Lake

We made our way to the observation car, drank coffee, and watched North Dakota fly by.
Soon, we were in Rugby. It was a refueling stop, so we were able to get off the train and stretch our legs.
Because it had been dark when we began our trip the night before, this was our first chance to see the train. That sucker was long.
"All aboard!" (yes, the conductors really do yell that)

Then it was back on the train. We spent the morning traveling through North Dakota, and then hit Montana that afternoon. I had never been to Montana before, and it did not disappoint: vast prairies with mountains in the background, and, yes, a very big sky.

We spent most of the afternoon and evening drinking wine in the observation car, listening to trail guides from the "Rails to Trails" program talk about what we were seeing out the windows. Then we hit Glacier National Park and lost the sunlight. We went back to our seats and tried to sleep while the train took us through Idaho and Eastern Washington.

We woke up to this:
This is where I stopped taking pictures. There was just no way that my camera could capture the mountains and the water and the beauty of Washington, and I just wanted to take it in without trying to take pictures (cue John Mayer's "3 x 5").

The train took us through those mountains, through completely untouched wilderness, and there are really no words for how beautiful and awe-inspiring it was. This part of the trip, alone, made the sleepless nights and awkward conversations with retirees over dinner worth it.

And then, at about 11 a.m., we arrived in Seattle! We weren't able to check in to our hotel yet, so we dropped our bags and took our tired, unshowered selves and wandered around the city.

We ate fish tacos on the water:

made our way up to the Pike Place Market:

saw the gum wall (so gross):

and the original Starbucks.

We then walked back to our hotel (we did a LOT of walking on this trip), showered, went to dinner at a fabulous French/Cajun restaurant nearby, and slept for about 14 hours.

The next morning, we headed to the monorail, spotting an awesome fountain and the Space Needle on our way.

We monorail-ed and walked over to Pike Place Market, where we had lunch and delicious beer at the Pike Brewing Co. We loved it so much we bought some to bring home, and now I'm dying to find it somewhere in Minneapolis (help?)

We got touristy and did the Underground Tour (which was actually really cool), had dinner and pumpkin beer at Elysian Brewing, and then headed over to Safeco Field to watch the f-ing Yankees stomp all over the Mariners.

 birds up high at Safeco

The next morning, we boarded the ferry to Bainbridge Island.
We had a delicious late lunch on the island, did some wine tasting, and walked around and window-shopped. The island was adorable and I kind of want to move there.

The next day, we went to the Experience Music Project.
I remember seeing this on MTV when it was built, and thinking that it looked OMG SO SUPER COOL. Well, it was. They were running a special exhibit on Nirvana to commemorate the 20th anniversary of "Nevermind" which was really cool and also incredibly sad.

The next day was our last day in Seattle - our train was scheduled to leave at about 4 that afternoon. So we hiked the long, long distance over to the Fremont neighborhood of Seattle to find the troll that lives under the bridge.
We had lunch, browsed in some of the shops in the neighborhood, headed back to our hotel, got a cab to the train station, and said goodbye to Seattle.

As our train drove east past Puget Sound, the sun began to show through the clouds and shine off the water. It was gorgeous, and a very fitting farewell after a wonderful stay in Seattle.
During the train ride home, we played travel scrabble, watched movies, and spent more time in the observation car drinking wine (duh). And, 36 hours later, we pulled into the St. Paul train station at about 8 a.m., sad that our trip was over but happy to see our little Levi.

The title of this blog post comes from Bon Iver's "Holocene", which felt like it was especially designed for long train trips through the moutains. I listened to this song and the album it comes from on repeat during the train ride, and now I can't hear it without remembering the trip, which is actually pretty great.

OUTFIT: Come as you are

How hot was it today?! BBC Weather tells me that Manchester reached the dizzy heights of 27° C! Where did that come from? And where have you been all 'Summer'?

Seeing as it was so sizzlingly hot outside, I decided to go all super casual and sport my new vest from H & M teamed up with my trusty staple of black leggings. I think I'm the only person I know that doesn't own a single pair of pants!

How awesome is this vest??

It's from the Divided section of H & M. I'm not really that keen on H & M, the normal stuff there is a bit blah, but the Divided section does have the occasional gem hidden away at a ridiculously cheap price. I'm a big fan of Nirvana, so when I saw this vest in the window I went crazy! Tis a shame I'll never see them play live :(

I love the fact that the vest is pretty long that an underskirt isn't needed when it's paired with leggings. If it was any shorter though, you wouldn't see me in it with just leggings! Camel toe? Err... No thank you!

Now, onto the jewellery. I thought the vest was a statement in itself so opted not to wear a necklace, shocking right?! Instead I thought I'd go for this awesome Acrylic Diamond shaped ring by Stolen Thunder. I purchased it from the Ark sale a few weeks ago for a bargain basement £11.

I'm told that Marina & The Diamonds has been seen wearing it a few times. It's a bit of an odd looking ring, the greatest thing about it though is that it's a different colour every time you look at it!

At the time of writing, I'm watching Beyoncé's Glasto performance. She is amazing! Her make up looks gorgeous, and the outfit?! Mental note: Never dress like that for a festival. Can't see it working!

Hope you've all had a great weekend! Until next time..

OUTFIT: Summer Called, it's Gonna be Late!

Hiya!

After an amazing April I was ready for a marvellous May, joyous June and a jubilant July. Unfortunately, I was to be disappointed. May was a complete washout, overcast skies every day, rain every other day and low temperatures. Sigh.

But you know me, I'm not going to let that miserable weather stop me from wearing my summery threads! This apricot blouse came from Topshop for around £35, can't remember the exact amount, d'oh! It's worth every penny. In these gloomy times, it seriously lightens up the atmosphere!

The blouse itself is short at the front and long at the back, giving it a ripply appearance. It's quite a sheer number and can be worn open or buttoned-up. Be warned though, if you do wear it buttoned up you may want to wear a nice vest-top underneath unless you don't mind showing off some flesh!

Black Skull Printed Cardigan - eBay
Om Ring & DJ Decks Ring - Galibardy
Little Ben Necklace - TOPSHOP

How cute is the Big Ben necklace? And it isn't exactly big so I call it Little Ben, tehe! I bought this last year, it came with a silver chain that looked a bit goth-esque, and I'm not too keen on gold and silver mixed together so I replaced it with a gold chain :)

Hope you're all having a great weekend so far. I've been at Parklife Festival, saw Two Door Cinema Club last night and I must say, I was quite disappointed, they mostly played their new songs that no one has heard of which is a big no-no for a festival! Highlight so far has to be Kelis & Katy B! I'm now up for round 2 today, looking forward to seeing Darwin Deez & Mark Ronson!

OUTFIT: Set On Fire

Hello Hello!

You may have noticed that I've been absent for a while, I haven't really been feeling too well. And let's face it, there just isn't any point in blogging when you're not feeling it!

I feel miles better now, yay! I've also noticed that I've been losing a bit of weight as well. I'm pretty sure it's down to me riding the bicycle. I can ride poppy for miles and miles. It can get quite tiring, but when you're really enjoying it you don't tend to notice.

Anyways, on Thursday I went to see Friendly Fires at Manchester Sound Control just off Oxford Road. I'd never been there before, but I had walked past it a few times. Apparently it used to be a music store! My initial thoughts on the venue were good, it was quite small and had the capacity for about 400 people. It's perfect to get an intimate atmosphere with the band.

The thing I loved most about the place was a small platform at the side which I could stand on and overlook all the giants in front of me. Would you believe it, all the petite ladies were up there on it. I saw everything for once. And I'll tell you what, another great thing about being small is you can always make your way down to the front! This was really a band I actually wanted to see, not just hear. The lead singer's dance moves are just awesome!

Sorry I'm waffling on a bit, back to the topic... outfit!

Lately I feel a lot of the stuff in the high street is boring me a little bit, I've already got about 2,045,339 sheer blouses. I don't need any more no matter how many nice shiny new colours they come in! And all the florals look so samey. I decided to root through my wardrobe and find out exactly what I've got in there.

In amongst the chaos and carnage that is my wardrobe, I came across a golden nugget... A sheer, beaded tunic with scatters of flame red which I wore for Eid a couple of years ago. I just cannot believe I only wore it once, look how stunning it is!

I love the way the sunlight reflects off the beads, it looks so blingy! Obvs.

Don't you just love it when you find something you adore and turns out you already own it? Haha.

Back to Friendly Fires:

Time flew by, felt like I was only there for an hour, it was incredibly fun, especially seeing the lead singer dance, he is outrageously energetic. Some people find his moves amusing, I found it electrifying.

They played a mixture of their old stuff along with the new album, Pala which is out next Monday. The new stuff got a bit of a queit reception from the crowd, most likely were hearing it for the first time, although this week, the whole album is available to stream via their website.

The most appealing tune I found was Hawaiian Air. It sounds fresh, vibrant, and is an obvious festival classic in the making.

Until next time...
